The formation of stones in the kidneys or urinary tract is a fairly common disorder. The stones are produced from the chemicals normally found in the urine such as uric acid, phosphorous, calcium and oxalic acid.

Types of stones

* Calcium oxalate / phosphate stones – 90% -95%

* Uric acid stones – 2-4%

* Cystine stones – 1%

About 90% of stones contain calcium and more than half of these are mixtures of calcium, ammonium and magnesium (Phosphates and carbonates), the remaining oxalates.

 

Causes of kidney stones

* High concentration of urine due to

– Heavy perspiration

– Inadequate intake of fluids

* Desk-bound life-style

* Excess intake of

– Acid forming foods

– White flour and sugar content items

– Meat

– Tea and coffee

– Spices

– over-eating

– Lack of vitamin ‘A’

– Excess intake of vitamin ‘D’

 

Symptom of kidney stones

* Severe pain in the abdomen, first in the side and thereafter in the groin and thighs.

* Frequent desire to urinate

* Painful urination

* Nausea, vomiting

* Sweating, chills and shock

* Blood in urine

* Sometimes no symptoms (SILENT STONES)

Say no to these foods:

Foods with high oxalate content encourage Cal oxalate stone formation, the majority universal type of renal stone. When the level of urinary oxalate is high, limiting high oxalate foods reduce risk of formatting renal stones. Foods rich in uric acid/ purines increase urinary excretion of uric acid, which predisposes to both uric acid and oxalate stones

  • PALAK and CHAURAI as they have high oxalate content.
  • TOMATOES as they have high oxalate content.
  • AMLA as it has high oxalate content.
  • CHICKOO as it has high oxalate content.
  • CASHEW NUTS it has high oxalate content.
  • CUCUMBER as it has high oxalate content.
  • CAULIFLOWER as it has high uric acid / purine content.
  • PUMPKIN as it has high uric acid / purine content.
  • MUSHROOM as it has high uric acid / purine content.
  • BRINJAL as it has high uric acid / purine content.

 

Say yes to these fruits:

  • COCONUT WATER contains dialysable bio-molecules which not only can inhabit the early mineral phase creation & subsequent development but also stimulate demineralisation of preformed mineral phase.
  • CORN-SILK TEA is rich in tartrates acting as good inhibitor of stone formation. It exerts diuretic action. It is specifically healing, supportive, strengthening and protective on urinary bladder thereby, helping eradicate calculi.
